Hip to be Square(Dancing)

Captain’s Log. Daddy Chronicles. Diaper Date 2382. I am a Girl Scout. The Eldest joined the local Daisy Troop at school and since she travels with me to and from school, I am the one that attends the meetings with her. This is fine by me, but may become interesting at some point because I was a Boy Scout for the extended period of one day. I can’t tie a square knot, don’t know poison ivy from other weeds, and generally hate being out in the woods.

Fatherhood changes people though. I am the only father who attends meetings, and that is okay. The moms are nice and have been welcoming to both me and my daughter. It is fun to see her bond with the other girls in the troop. She enjoys the activities and, of course, the snacks.

Last week was especially fun. The Girl Scouts hosted a Daddy Daughter night. It was a fun opportunity for us to not only bond with our daughters, but also to get to know some of the other dads in the group. The party was a Square Dance theme.

Now, The Captain hasn’t square danced since it was a requirement for middle school gym. I’m not gonna lie, I was apprehensive, at best, about the notion of square dancing – with strangers.

Of course the first question to be answered was what to wear. I don’t own cowboy boots or a hat, so I threw my Lee jeans on and a red plaid shirt and picked up my daughter – who was wearing her very favorite pair of cowgirl boots (which were held together merely by duct tape and superglue).

This night kind of fit with the #LeeModernDad theme. It was fun seeing all the dads under one roof, dancing (most of us didn’t know how to square dance), spending time with our daughters, and having a ball. So much fun in fact that the Eldest fell asleep on the way home.

I can’t say that either of us are anywhere near being square dance experts, but we had a lot of fun that night and look forward to the next year when we get to do it again. In the meantime, hopefully I don’t run into the law now that I am a wanted man. I just wish there was a higher bounty on me. $1000 bounty is for amateurs. Next year maybe I will be worth a cool 10K.

At any rate, I am going to promenade on back to home, spin myself round and round, and do-si-do myself to sleep.

That’s all I’ve got for now….Captain out.

I did receive a pair of jeans from Lee, but was not compensated for this posting. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

My audition for the new Most Interesting Man in the World. Actually, it's just me sitting by the fire waiting for the power to come back.
